"Shea butter from the social project 'AGRIFASO'"
Project consultant Hermann Schopferer has been involved in the field of organic shea butter for years. As a connoisseur of the land and its people, he chose the rainy region in the southwest of Burkina Faso due to its high density of shea trees. The shea nuts are harvested once a year, and the organic certification is carried out. The producer communities receive a fair price for their products, and annual purchase quantities are guaranteed, promoting the preservation of village communities.
After the harvest, the shea nuts are dried, shelled, heated, and pounded with mortars. The resulting paste is diluted with water and beaten for about an hour until the shea butter is skimmed off and filled for further use.
The Hermann Schopferer or AGRIFASO Project (HSP) supports its employees with high social standards:
- All employees are provided with meals in the company's own canteen
- Payment for medical treatment for all employees
- Guaranteed minimum wage
- Payment of a 13th month's salary
- Payment of bonuses for exceptional performance
- Ensuring working conditions that avoid health risks for employees
- The HSP subsidizes the construction of warehouses for farmers
- The HSP secures and improves the income of about 2,000 families in the southwest of Burkina Faso
